The Dhurrie Rug has been woven in India for centuries, traditionally made from cotton yarn and originally used by everyone as a functional piece only. In the 20th Century, the Dhurrie became more stylish when the threat of mill woven rugs pushed the handweaver to create intricate and colourful patterns that couldn't be replicated by a machine. Dhurries are extremely durable and easy to care for. They are woven flat with the warp facing out on both sides meaning between washes you can flip your rug over to the fresh side.
We are so happy to have met the skilled artisans that have turned our designs into rugs.
These rugs are washable by machine if you do not have an agitator. If your machine does have an agitator you can wash by wetting the entire rug with a hose and scrubbing the surface with a sponge using light dish soap or a laundry detergent.
